Coco Beach

These photographs follow Coco Beach as a social and spatial threshold within Dar es Salaam.
The coast functions at once as a recreation ground, trading zone and stage of public visibility.
Bodies, objects and provisional structures define a beach culture shaped by use rather than design – forms of public coastal life that have remained marginal within dominant photographic imaginaries of the beach.
